Welcome to Hutchinson Island

Hutchinson Island is located just off the coast of Martin and St. Lucie counties and comprises two barrier islands bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Indian River on the west. Three causeways provide direct access to and from the mainland.

A passport to seaside paradise, this oceanside sanctuary is the epitome of pure, unspoiled beaches (spanning 23 miles) lapped with deep blue waters, luxury residential condominiums, and exclusive private communities. The ultimate holiday in the sun, locals have the option of visiting two expansive public beaches on South Hutchinson Island, including Jensen Sea Turtle Beach and Stuart Beach, each offering a wide range of amenities, including child-friendly lifeguard stations, volleyball courts, picnic pavilions, and concessions.

In addition, Martin County also offers a smaller array of pristine sand strips, such as Bathtub Beach, which is positioned on the northernmost end of Hutchinson Island. A family favorite, Bathtub Beach is known for its spectacular coral reef, situated just off the shoreline, which makes for a superb snorkeling and scuba diving destination. Idyllic for children due to its soft sand and calm shallow waters, parents can let their little ones play on the water’s edge with ease, while taking a break under an umbrella from the beating sun.

House of Refuge, the most photographed beach on the island, is home to the only remaining House of Refuge (a turn-of-the-century life-saving station for shipwrecked sailors and travelers along the Atlantic coast of Florida). Today, coined House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar, a historic structure and museum, is recognized as the oldest building in Martin County and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Outside of House of Refuge at Gilbert’s Bar, Hutchinson Island offers residents an abundance of history and culture at the newly renovated Elliott Museum. Another family-friendly attraction located on the island is the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center. This 57-acre property houses the Florida Oceanographic Society’s headquarters, nature trails, a 750,000-gallon game fish lagoon, sea turtle pavilion, children’s activity pavilion, sea star touch tank pavilion, and rays on the reef ray pavilion.

Anchored with dynamic attractions, Hutchinson Island has something for everyone to explore, including gold-star golf courses designed by legends like Jack Nicklaus, Chi Chi Rodriguez, and Tom Fazio. Ocean Club Golf Course at the Marriott Hutchinson Island Beach Resort is a golf lover’s dream come true, spanning 18 holes and maintained and designed by Charles Ankrom. Sailfish Point, a private residential community and golf club, lends golfers a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course against the backdrop of enchanting views. This course was ranked 4th among Residential Courses in South Florida and 53rd Nationwide by Golfweek Magazine in 2018.

The picturesque community to plant down new roots, an abundance of award-winning public and private schools are located nearby, both on the island and on the mainland. Palm Beach International Airport is in proximity.
